MISSION

Nonprofit Resources enhances the ability of Arkansas community-based organizations to fulfill their missions.

STATEMENT OF BELIEFS

We believe that:
  • honesty and integrity are core values of Nonprofit Resources;
  • we must be inclusive, and involve the perspectives of all stakeholders in every process;
  • poverty is not inevitable;
  • the ability to be successful is not a birthright for the few, but a talent for the many that motivated people can learn;
  • fairness is about rules, justice is about considering people s needs: we should strive to be just, not merely fair;
  • empowerment is essential, and to us it means making it possible for people to realize and use the powers they already possess to affect the world in ways that they find meaningful;
  • self determination, self sufficiency and equitable access to all resources form the roots of strong, successful community based organizations (CBOs), and, though them, strong, successful communities;
  • community problems are most likely to be recognized and solved by CBOs, and we should facilitate the development of their capacity to operate on their terms, rather than dictating to them;
  • there are many definitions of "community," but groups funded by Nonprofit Resources should be clearly typical of their communities;
  • we must find ways to identify, clear and bridge "faultlines"- those divisive places where underlying pressures of race, gender and class inequality wait to burst forth;
  • continued evaluation of our projects and activities will ensure than we can and do fulfill our own mission; and
  • we should lead by example, model our beliefs by our actions.

VISION

Our vision of the future shows us vibrant, caring, confident communities meeting the needs and aspira-tions of all people providing opportunities for enrichment and satisfaction in their lives.
At the heart of these communities we see community-based organizations conceived, developed and managed by local people who understand the desires and opportunities of their neighbors and neighborhoods. They make community involvement by everyday people possible, and, working alongside government, educational, environmental and business interests, these organizations form a vital block in the strong foundation which supports the raising of their communities from existence to excellence.
